Matariki

It’s become our Let’s Grow tradition to invite our whanau to come together to celebrate the New Year with hot soup, waiata, marshmallows by the fire and enjoy the beautiful lanterns that our Karioi tamaiti have created.

This year the night was clear, still and cold. We waited in anticipation in our warm jackets for darkness to fall so the candles and lanterns could light up our lantern trail. Finally the Karioi tamaiti and kaiako came around the corner and walked towards us and along the lantern trail at Kura Taiao. All month our children worked hard to create our candle holders and beautifully painted paper lanterns.

We then gathered together sing some Matariki waiata for our families with whaea Kat playing the guitar.

What a special evening. Thank you for joining us and see you next year!
